A list of committee listserves are attached as exhibit.&nbsp; If your committee doesn\u2019t have one, please email <a href=\"mailto:webmaster@rpptl.org\">webmaster@rpptl.org<\/a> and our webmaster can set one up for you.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Maintain Your Committee\u2019s Listserve<\/strong>.\n<ol start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You, or your designee, can manage your listserve directly by requesting a password from the RPPTL Webmaster at <a href=\"mailto:webmaster@rpptl.org\">webmaster@rpptl.org<\/a>. Open<\/strong>\n<ol start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Moderated listserves required you, or your designee, to approve postings to the listserve.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open listserves allow for anyone in the committee to post to the listserve.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most RPPTL listserves are open.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Listserve Advantages<\/strong>\n<ol start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Automatically updates email addresses so no concerns about people replying all to old emails.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Large committee emails may get caught in spam filters due to the large number of addressees<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Listserve Purpose and Function<\/strong>. Gives committee members an easy way to connect for use as a sounding board and exchange information exchange. Each committee can set the groundrules for how you want to use your listserve. Generally discussion is limited to legal and business issues about committee related issues including:\n<ol start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>News, comments, and rumors;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legislation (proposed or passed);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copies of newsletters, articles, legal memos, announcements, model documents, checklists, summaries, and other practice aids;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Publication or speaking opportunities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Requests for recommendations of local counsel or specialized counsel;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optional: Help wanted &amp;&nbsp; jobs sought<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"6\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>How to post<\/strong>.\n<ol start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To post a message, send email to: the committee listserve address.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When your message goes out, the name of the &#8220;sender&#8221; will be the list on behalf of your email address.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The subject matter line will be whatever you typed when you sent your posting.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"7\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Attachments<\/strong>.\n<ol start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is good practice to post attachments on the committee webpage rather than emailing around file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any attachments should be only in Word or PDF format.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whenever you reasonably can, please convert your message into the text of an email message instead. For example, if you are posting a brief summary of an important case, &#8220;block select&#8221; the text of your summary in Word, then copy it into the body of an email message. That way you won&#8217;t inflict an unnecessary attachment on a bunch of people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give every attachment a file name that will help the recipient know and remember what it is and make a judgment about whether it&#8217;s worth reading. Windows filenames can be 200 characters long, or longer. Use them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"8\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Replies, Scope Of<\/strong>. When you receive each RPPTL Listserve message, it will look as if it came from just the original sender, just one person. As soon as you &#8220;Reply&#8221; to it, though, the return address will automatically change to the general address for postings to RPPTL Listserve. So whatever you send will go to the ENTIRE list, even if you choose &#8220;Reply&#8221; rather than &#8220;Reply All.&#8221; This usually makes sense, because most of the time your responses should go to the entire list. If you really intend to reply just to the original sender (which we encourage if your reply will not be of broad interest), please edit the addressee field so your reply goes only to the original sender. For example, if someone has announced a change of firms and you want to congratulate them, don&#8217;t &#8220;REPLY&#8221; to their posting. Send them a new email message outside of the RPPTL Listserve \u2013 doublecheck the to box of your email!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"9\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Replies, Format<\/strong>. Replies should include the text of the message being replied to, but feel free to delete accumulated disclaimers, etc. Consider whether to update the subject matter line if it has become outdated.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"10\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Set Membership Criteria; New Members<\/strong>. To keep volume low and quality high, many committees limit listserve access to committee members.&nbsp; Some committees allow anyone to join.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"11\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Waiver Of Disclaimers; Confidentiality<\/strong>. By posting to a RPPTL list, you waive any confidentiality, forwarding, or other restrictions in any disclaimer in your email message. This is a public forum, even though membership is limited. Post no confidential information.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"12\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Caveats<\/strong>. All postings are automatically subject to these disclaimers, caveats, warnings, and disclosures, none of which need be stated: Every posting represents the personal opinion of the sender, only at the moment of sending, and does not bind or estop the sender or their colleagues, organization, or clients in any way. All intellectual property rights are reserved. No posting shall be construed as legal advice or as establishing an attorney\u2010client relationship. No reader of a posting should rely on it. Postings may be inaccurate, misguided, misleading, or stupid. Any attachments might contain viruses.
